5 Steps Toward a Successful Senior Year

With the new school year approaching, it's crucial for seniors to approach it with both excitement and a strategic mindset. Senior year isn't just a culmination of your high school journey; it's also a pivotal time for setting the stage for your future. Here's a checklist to help you make the most of your senior year and ensure you're well-prepared for what lies ahead:

Remember That Senior Grades Matter

It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of being a senior, but maintaining your grades should remain a top priority. Your senior grades can impact not just college admission decisions but scholarships, too.

Stay Ahead of Deadlines

Procrastination can be tempting, but starting early will alleviate stress and set you up for success. By tackling tasks like essays early, you'll have more time to make sure you’re sending in applications you’re proud of, without tremendous stress!

Communicate with Your School Counselors and Teachers

Your school counselors will be providing invaluable information during your senior year. Not to mention that they, along with your teachers, will be writing your letters of recommendation. Schedule regular meetings with your counselor to make sure you’re on track and develop relationships with both your counselor and teachers. We offer more LOR-related advice in this blog post

Follow the College’s Instructions

Each college has its own set of application requirements and deadlines. Pay close attention to these details and follow instructions meticulously. This includes submitting required documents, standardized test scores, recommendation letters, and any supplemental materials in advance of the specified deadlines.

Check Once, Check Twice, and then Check Again

Once you press submit on your applications, you may breathe a sigh of relief. However, your job doesn’t stop there! You’ll soon get access to an applicant portal for each college. Make sure you’re regularly checking those portals. That’s where the college will tell you if they are missing any materials or need anything else from you!

Remember, the effort you invest now will pay off in the form of greater opportunities and a smoother transition to college. If you’re looking for more support, Orbit is here to help! Contact us today.
